Open Events

Season Overview

MCBC hosts three Open Events each season. These Opens are fun, competitive tournaments that also serve an important purpose — they help build the prize pool for our Two Day Club Division Championship.

Each Open has its own unique flavor and format, from limited horsepower waters, to a strategic Big Bass shootout, to one last end-of-season throwdown with the club.

Spring Open – “Battle of the Border”

The Spring Open, known as the “Battle of the Border”, is held on the limited HP waters of Pymatuning Reservoir.

• We meet at an Ohio ramp, where you may choose to launch there or trailer your boat to another ramp.
• You must return to the original launch location before the posted check-in time.
• Limited horsepower can be a challenge, but Pymatuning can still produce big bags with a 5 fish limit!

Big Bass Bonanza

The Big Bass Bonanza is the pinnacle of our Open Events — a unique format that is both fun and challenging, where each team can build their own strategy around when and what to weigh.

• Blast-off: 7:00 AM
• Check-in: Teams must be back by 3:00 PM
• Hourly Payouts: 8 total hourly payouts of $200 each hour
• One fish rule: Each team is allowed only one fish in the livewell at all times.
• Angler’s choice: You choose when you want to weigh in during the day.

There is a live leaderboard so all anglers can see what has been weighed in for each hour, helping teams adjust their strategy on the fly.

At the designated dock, an MCBC team member will:

• Take a picture of you and your fish for that hour,
• Collect your fish in a weigh bag and run it to the scales,
• Bring your weigh slip back to you at the dock.

You’ll be able to see your fish weighed on the LED scoreboard — all while you wait in your boat, much like a race car pit stop!

At the end of the day, there is also a final payout for the overall Top 3 Big Bass of the day.

Last Cast Open

The Last Cast Open is our final event of the season — one last chance to compete together before we wrap up the year.

• This event helps kick-start the following season, with funds going toward the Two Day Club Division Championship for the next year.
• As the name suggests, it’s our last time to come together as a club and enjoy one more tournament on the water.
